I am "selling" these hand-knitted sushi set (plate and chopsticks not included). Free shipping. $15 a set includes 3 rolls and sashimi with a dollop of wasabi and pickled ginger. All proceeds (except etsy's cut) go the American Red Cross for Japan disaster relief. Contact me here for details.

Just a little larger than actual sized sushi... each set is custom made from yarn I had. The yarn was free, it's mostly acrylic, and knitting keeps me from worrying about people I never met... but pray fervently that they will make it. And I feel good doing this. Each set is hand made to order (just like the real thing!)

A custom order for 4 hats, done in the entrelac style... the challenge was that they were to be done in 2 weeks...it took me 3. But they are done, and my wrist is on ice. I think they came out wonderful tho, and cannot wait to make more...after my wrist heals. Ouch.

and you too! I was luckily given a batch of felted wool from a lovely seller on etsy to play with, the colors were just right for making peaches. Aren't these cute? I am really happy with how they turned out.

I may get a chance to sell my things locally at a farmers market. I am looking for suppliers of of wool in CT so I can support locals with my finished products too. I plan on offering handspun yarns and needle felted fruits and veggies. Fun!

When my daughter was 3, she said she was a superhero, and her daddy asked her that question. Her answer was "Twirling!" and she proceeded to give a spinning demonstration....

While I may not be a superhero, I did give my version of spinning a try again. These are some recent spinnings I did, including one from some of the roving I bought last week. (The pink one on the end.)

The Pink/Green is merino and angelina glitz, I spun 25.5 yds already. The light purple green is 19 yds, i think it's merino. The fuzzy teal purple is 19 yds, pretty sure that is mohair and corridale. i got 25.5 yds of the black alpaca. The blue purple is merino/tencel - 3 sks of about 14 yds ea. And the orange-green corridale is about 29 yds. I am not sure about the yardage of the lime green merino (froggyfibers!), but that's my second spinning of it ...I have to see what the first batch from last year looks like to compare.

I really like spinning my own yarn. It's so satisfying. Now, if I can only bring myself to knit something with it....

My latest creation after being in a slump. I made two of these so far, with more in the works. Watch for them to be featured in my shop soon. The first two are brooches, about 3.5 to 4 inches wide.

The wool petals are shaped first then I add the center to make it solid and to attach the petals together, then a little sparkle eye lash completes the look.

They fasten with a safety pin that was sewn and then needle felted over for extra security.

Deb Kaplan and Tiff Ang of Death by Drone have taken my lovely hats and cupcakes and made a wonderful combination with them. I only wish I had thought of it first! I am thrilled to be working with them for their new Fall 2009 line of wonderfully macabre and whimsical creations. You have to check them out. Their stuff is fun and witty, and I am happy to be part of it. I just wish I were 20 years younger to be able to wear it. I would have for sure.

Yes, I had to have the feeling of completing something for myself. I made this sweater in record time (4 days!) Knit of alpaca/wool/acrylic in the brown (Valley Yarns Shelburne) and a handspun a got from OneSheepHill on etsy...yummy. Bulky and warm and fun. And all mine!

Isn't this pretty? I made this hat from N.Y.Yarn Gypsy, which is 90% acrylic and 10% wool. It is soft and stretchy and so nice to look at. It will fit a smallish head, either a young adult or child with ease. It has a circumference of about 20.5 inches.

I made this for my friend's daughter. She requested pink, pink and more pink! This hat fits the bill, for sure. The photo really doesn't do the hat justice, my friends in my knitting group want this hat because of the colors. The yarn is Patons Soy and is a dream to knit with.

This one was a complete surprise on how the patterning would occur. When I was knitting it, I thought that it looked like the color was "sliding" toward the bottom edge of the hat. I think it came out wonderful though, and can't wait to make another for my friend. (This is another custom order). I may even have enough enough of this yarn for a matching scarf.

I am addicted to knitting this way. It kind of frightens me how much I love it. I made this hat as part of a custom order for my shop.

I have to say, I love Noro Kureyon yarn, the colors are fantastic. I just wish it were a little softer. I got lucky and found a shop online that sells Noro for a really good price too. My first shipment just came in and I can't wait to get started on the new colors! They are very bright colorways, too...plus one brownish one.

I decided to try doing enterlac knitting and I am hooked. I took my sample peice of 21 inches long, stiched it together and added a ribbed band to finish it. It was made with Tosca yarn and I love the bright colors. Anyway, I love doing entrelac more than cables, and I expect to see these hats in my shop soon. (This one is mine!)

I told myslef I was going to phase out my jewelry from my shop, but while perusing the aisles of the local craft store, there was a slew of beads and ribbons and findings all marked down super low and I couldn't resist buying them. Oh, this sweater was indeed easy to do! I was upset when I first tried it on, because it looked nothing like the picture in the pattern. (It was close, though). I think the photo they have of the model is that she's a regular small wearing a size large.

I am a large, and I made the XL. I would have liked more drape, but it is growing on me.

Once I lose more weight, I think it will fit better.

Michael's Craft Store in Avon cancelled it's stitch and sit classes. They fired my instructor, and the crochet instructor, as well as the jewelry teachers and painting teachers too. I can't believe the incredibly bad idea this is for Michael's to do. Apparently this decision is a corporate one and it's across the board at all Michael's. As of April 7, 2008, they will no longer hold classes.

I don't know where their corporate got their information that classes were bad for business. Apparently, they haven't seen the quantity of yarn and needles and notions my class buys every week. I can't imagine we are the only class that buys stuff where we work.

If you were affected by this in any way, I urge you to say something to Michael's. Call, email, whatever. Please.

I don't recommend taking this little duck in the water. He's probably of the few that don't like getting wet. He's already small enough and he doesn't want to get smaller.

He's apporoximately 2 inches all the way around in every direction. He is needle felt of wool. He will fit in the palm of your hand.

Several friends and relatives received 3rd generation iPods this past holiday season. I decided to try my hand at making some beautiful but practical pouches for them, especially since one of my buddies almost lost his. This one isn't his style, but it might be yours.

When knitting in recycled sari silk, I never know how something will turn out, the texture of the yarn is different from skein to skein, even within the same skein. It's exciting for me to work with. This hangs about 12 inches from your neck to the top of the pouch. The pouch is 3 inches long and 2.5 inches wide, with a rounded flap that is two inches long. The bag is unlined. The flap is embellished with seed beads and closes with a shell bead in turquoise and white.

Don't have a nano? No problem, this pouch can carry your lip balm and credit card instead.

This wonderful necklace shimmers with the beauty of the sea. I imagine a mermaid would wear this very necklace if given the chance. It is strung on monofilament with clear glass and Austrian crystals, silverton spacers, tiger's eye and polished blue glass chips. The dichroic pendant is 1.5 inches (4 cm) across and the chain length is 18 inches.

I am offering this necklace and some others as a favor to my mother, who is the creator of these beautiful designs.

Cathy Maher has been creating jewelry for over 15 years and has asked me to feature some things in my shop on a trial run. If things do well, we can expect her own shop soon!

Ummm, I guess I like orange? I didn't make this to sell. It was an excercise in making bobbles. The pattern came from Vogue On the go Bags book. I borrowed it from a friend. I adapted it slightly, but not enough to make it original, I think. I cramped my hand making the bobbles, but boy this was fun to make! I need to line it still an attache the handles...I was so excited about finishing it I had to show.

I just finished this little cat. She is needlefelt in orange wool and has a white tipped tail and bib. Her paws are demurely crossed and she loves to watch the world go by from her window seat. She measures about 1.5 inches across - she really is tiny! Almost the same size as the pumpkins I was making.

I think she's very cute. I hope to list her today.

Art is number one seller on the front page of Etsy, followed closely by Jewelry. Accessories and Paper Goods are nearly even, with the fifth most popular category being Bath & Beauty.

The most multiple quantity purchases are in the Toys category. Supplies is found at no. 8. Supplies is currently the number one selling category on Etsy but is ranked low in this graph probably because Supplies are seldom featured on the front page.

Errata: the second, smaller 'Toys' category is mislabeled, it should actually be 'Patterns'.

Etsy.com is a marketplace to buy and sell handmade goods and is a company I helped co-found in June 2005.

I finished my second scarflette. It is very cozy and warm. It's made with an acrylic thick and thin yarn, but you would swear it was a natural fiber. I just wish I could remember the brand name.

Intarsia Flower Pillow

I found out some things about my Autumn Swap partner...and I hope these colors are right for her.

This will be a 12x12 pillow for her bedroom once it's done. I made the pattern up myself. I never did intarsia before, and this was fun to do. I made the graph online and used photoshop to help layout the colors for the design. I printed it out and - tada! - instant pattern that was easy to follow.

I knitted this in Lion Brand Chunky wool on size 13 bamboo needles. Superfast knit. I love it!

Etsy Secret Autumn swap

I am a little anxious about it. There is something nervewracking about making a gift (or buying one) for a stranger, never mind someone you know. I love the idea of it though. My swap giftee seems a little hard to shop for, but I really want to get something good. I almost wish there was a price cap on this too. I have some little things chosen already, but I would like one bigger gift to include. I guess my biggest fear is that she wouldn't like it.

To my swap partner (who has me a giftee): I like everything. I love soft handspun yarn, especially funky ones the most, right now; I love lotions/candles, vanilla is my favorite scent. I love stuffed things. Sunflowers, roses, fall items. Not picky.

I am not in as bad shape as I thought with all of my WIPs. I have many things on needles and some not on needles that require handsewing or other peicing done.

I have one sweater, one wrap, one summer sweater t-shirt, one tank top, one shrug... all for me, on needles in various stages, most more than a quarter done.

I have 5 bags that need finishing: handles to be added, linings to be sewn. I have two scarves on needles, but i just finished a cabled scarf and a neck wrap/scarflette, to be listed on etsy.

I have 2 GooGooMonsters and 1 mini monster to stuff and needlefelt for my shop and 3 minis to make for an order for someone in my knitting group (she crochets).

Isn't it pretty? I won't mind if this doesn't sell, when it expires, I will keep it. It is so so so so soft and very snuggly. It is a wool and acrylic mix yarn and the colors remind me a sunset in the fall. I love it. I made up the cable pattern, and by chance, the cable on one edge makes a nice undulating ripple. It looks impressive.

I can't wait to take pics of the cable scarf too. It is sooo nice. Again, I will have a hard time partin with it, but I plan on making one for myself in brown or burnt orange or lime green.

So now that everything is sorted I can concentrate on things that need to be finished. The problem with bigger projects like sweaters, is that I get bored easily. I try to switch them out while working.

Finished! Rosebud vine handbag

I finally finished the rosebud bag, made with the yarn from OneSheepHill. Oh, it came out so cute! I had to use some lion brand homespun for the trim, which isn't nearly as nice as the main yarn, but it works. I lined the bag with a brownish rose printed cotton fabric that looks great with the yarn. The pattern for the body of the bag was adapted from a pattern I saw on MagKnits.

Ooh, I finally finished my tank top. What do you think? I am so proud of it. It was my first really big project for myself. It wasmy first cable stitch and my first 3 needle bind off. I love the way it feels, although it's a little heavier than I thought it would be. I think I can wear it as a vest come fall too.

I recently purchased this yarn from this Etsy seller, OneSheepHill, and I am thrilled beyond belief to have this yarn. It is so, so soft and so, so pretty. It is 75 yards long, though so I need a small pattern, or maybe not. If anyone has any suggestions, please leave me a comment. A scarf? A hat? I just hope it doesn't get too fuzzy with me fondling it all the time. I think I want to marry it.

Well, I blogged about my new favorite etsy person before, but she blew my socks off today, for sure. Her husband bought one of my little ACEO patches and Lisa came up with this:

I was blown out of the water the first time I picked up the issue of Craft. The first issue of this wonderful magazine was thrilling to read. I loved everything about it... the articles, the photos, the size.

The second issue was even better than the first. I mean, LOOK at this cover!

Have you ever worked on a project that just consumes you? You love how everything is going so far and want to work on it to finish it as soon as possible... I am working on such a project. I am making something for me, just me and I swear, all I want to do is knit. I am making this and can't wait to be able to wear it. I am making a summer version in Lion Brand Incredible tape ribbon yarn in Autumn Leaves. Oh this is coming out so pretty so far. I am a bit nervous about the cable knit in the front, but I think I can do it. I am in the search now for another tank tunic for summer that I can knit in a cotton next.

Bracelets for Breast Cancer

My newest thing is crocheting beads and wires to make pretty things. I was getting burned out on knitting and my mom's situation was getting to me. She was diagnosed with an agressive breast cancer in Nov. 2006. She was told all kinds of scary things by her local doctors and it wasn't until we went to Boston to talk to doc there for a 2nd opinion that things became clearer. She had a lumpectomy done the next day and the doc thinks they got it all.

Anyway, I made these bracelets and keychains to relieve my stress. I made them for my child's daycare teachers as gifts, but thought I could sell them too. I would donate partial or whole proceeds to various breast cancer charities. I have already donated some, but if you would like to help out, you can get something in return by purchasing one of my items.

My mom is fine for now. We find out how much chemo she will need in a couple of weeks, but we are hopeful.

Still trying to find my style

I am not sure what my style is yet. I admire several styles of some scrap artists (leaving out the digi, because there are paper artists I admire as well). I don't want to copy anyone, but I really love being challenged by scraplifts. This is a struggle for me, because I know I am still pretty new at this whole thing, relatively.

Anyway, two artists I noticed recently:

and
wyowomanKristin

I really like how dreamy and ethearal most of the layouts are from both of these scrappers. Their use of edges and stamps impress me. I need to try more of these techniques.

Feeling a bit nostalgic

I created a kit. My second one! I hope you like it. I was feeling nostalgic. The cool weather brings to mind falling leaves and brisk autumn days. The header of this blog was made with the first paper I created for this kit.

My Nostalgia kit has 6 papers, 1 shabby overlay, 4 ribbons, a ribbon rose and 3 chiclets, no shadows on anything. I have to give props to Gina Miller for the paper I used in my description thumbnail. That paper is NOT in my kit.

I think I am in love with Alton Brown. He is funny and smart and the boy can cook. Oh wait, that describes my husband too! Lucky me! Anyway, we are huge fans of his show, Good Eats.

Returning

After a brief hiatus in scrapping and blogging, I have decided to return.

I tried a new scrapping site called "Scrapblog". It allows you to use their scrapping tool. I am not sure I like it as a scrap tool, but I do like the slideshow feature. So I uploaded my own scrap pages as images and went from there.

I still feel pretty dumb. I misunderstood the directions for the rules of the contest. During the chat, I gathered from the questions asked, that I could use a photo my husband took. That anyone could use any photo as long as it wasn't a professional one. Meaning, an old photo or one a family member took, as long as it didn't have copyrights to it. That was not the case.

I mean honestly, if I had thought that, I certainly would not have chosen the photo I chose. I used to be a photographer! I have a million photos! I chose that one because it has a lot of meaning to me. Even though my H took it, it is still my photo. It was taken with my camera. Sheesh.

Oh well, at least it wasn't because I suck.

Feeling a little discouraged

Ok, so I kind of figured that I wouldn't be going on to round two of the Ultimate Digiscrapper Contest, but I was hopeful. I thought I had a chance. Well, as you might have figured, I was cut.

I am trying not to feel sad about it, but I can't help it. Did my photo suck? Did my LO suck? What did I do wrong?

Anyway, I thought, I hoped, well, I though maybe I was good enough. I don't know if I can handle any more rejection. I am taking this too hard. I feel silly and stupid for being so sad.
